Thanksgiving {2010}

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Hardly any stress just make a couple of things and show up. It was a laid back day, filled with family, lots of family...now that is something to be thankful for.

Trying to take a family picture...unsuccessful.

We did get a cute picture of the girls

Jeff had a cook off to go to so Kendall and I spent the night at my parents. We went on a walk to go pick up some kenneling for the fire. We took more picture than picking up sticks.

We had a smore or two.

Here is a sneek peek of what we've been up too the last couple of days...

Those are true old school lights. That get hotter than a fire cracker when left on for more than 3 minutes. We found them when we were cleaning out my grandma's house. Needless to say those are just going to be for decoration since I really don't want our house to burn down.

My big 5 year old

We had Kendall's party this weekend. We went with a Minnie Mouse theme this year. I'm not a huge fan of character party's so I had to jazz it up a little.

The birthday girl

Some of the decorations. I put up some pictures of her when she was a baby, just for fun.

This is what country kids do for fun at birthday parties.

Ah, just kidding we had some actual birthday activities.

Minnie needed a little surgery to last through all the kiddos. Nothing a little duck tape can't fix.

It's all fun and games until somebody breaks the pinata open and the birthday girl doesn't get her second turn.

I think it was a success. Thanks to everyone who came and helped us celebrate!

What we've been up too...

Played some soccer.

Go Comets!

Went trick or treating.

These have kept me pretty busy.

Celebrated Kendall's 5th birthday.

Had some fun with the girls at Wurstfest...maybe a little too much fun.

Did the Chicken dance.

Kendall's German dance class. Celebrating Wurstfest 50th year.

Rode some rides with this wild child at Wurstfest.

Kendall and Opie (Jeff's dad)in the Opa room at Wurstfest.

Ah, luckily we have 1 more week of school and then we can take a break from everything for a while.

Carmel Apple Cupcakes

I made these for a Fall party at school. They were surprisingly easy...and I'm no baker. For the cake mixture, I used applesauce in place of oil. I figured if I'm going to get these kids all buzzed on sugar from the caramel's I would put in a little healthy stuff to make me feel better.

1 package (18-1/4 ounces) spice cake mix or 1 package (18 ounces) carrot cake mix
2 cups chopped peeled tart apples
20 caramels
3 tablespoons milk
1 cup finely chopped pecans, toasted
12 Popsicle sticks

* Prepare cake batter according to package directions; fold in apples.
* Fill 12 greased or paper-lined jumbo muffin cups three-fourths full. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pans to wire racks to cool completely.
* In a small saucepan, cook the caramels and milk over low heat until smooth. Spread over cupcakes. Sprinkle with pecans. Insert a wooden stick into the center of each cupcake. Yield: 1 dozen.

Happy 5th Birthday!

Kendall words can't express how much joy you bring to my life each day. I love the way your eyes squint when you laugh. When we come home the first thing you do is strip down to your undies and then you say, Momma I want to put on some comfy clothes...like wearing crocs and legging all day just kills you. That you play with the mean girl in class because no one else will. But girlfriend you have to stick up for yourself sometimes. And the most special is at school in the halls you always gives me a kiss every time you see me, no matter who is watching.
